Perfectly painted faces, colored traditional clothes and beautiful music and dramatic performances?
Yup, that’s Chinese opera.
One of the main styles of Chinese opera is the Cantonese opera.
It’s a highly respected form of art that blends Chinese legend, music and drama into a very fun and unique performance.
Watching performances of Cantonese opera in bamboo-made theatres is even more fun.
“2018/10 Let’s Enjoy Cantonese Opera in Bamboo Theatre” is a program organized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
This program aims to provide visitors with a chance to set foot into bamboo theatres.
Here is a sneak peek at the show.
Visitors will be able to experience the Cantonese opera the same way it was performed a hundred years ago.
This unique temporary structure is a big part of Chinese culture.
Building and performing in those bamboo theatres enables the inheritance of Chinese tradition over the generations.
The opera is performed at different bamboo theatres in three different districts.
Parent-child activities are organized for the audience.
Trust me. You don’t need to understand Cantonese to enjoy these amazing performances.
There are two shows per day. Each lasting for almost an hour and 30 minutes.
The best thing about the “Let’s Enjoy Cantonese Opera in Bamboo Theatre” program, is that some tickets are offered for free!
